Description | The Chennai Port Container Terminal Expansion Project was announced in October of 1997. On November 30, 2001, the Ministry of Surface and Transport awarded the 30-year BOT concession to the consortium consisting of P&O Ports Australia (75%), Chettinad Group (20%) and MBEC Group (5%) with the objective to manage and develop the port. In March 2006, UAE's DP World became a shareholder of Chennai Container terminal after it acquired P&O Ports.
