Description | The Chennai Port Authority plans to build a massive outer harbour to add capacity, reduce logistics time and cost, and handle ultra-large container ships with a draft of over 20 meters. The project will be executed in phases, with the first phase ready by 2031, and includes construction of breakwater, land reclamation, berth construction, container yard development, roads, rail connectivity, handling equipment installation, dredging, and navigational aids. The project will be implemented on a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) basis with a concessionaire chosen by the end of 2026 for a 45-year period. |
