Description | The Chicago Bears purchased the 326-acre Arlington International Racecourse in February 2023 for $197.2 million with plans to build a $5 billion domed stadium and entertainment district. However, as of March 2026, the project has not yet broken ground. Illinois lawmakers are working to pass House Bill 2789, which would provide the necessary tax stability and financial arrangements to enable the stadium project to proceed. The bill needs to pass the Illinois House, Senate, and be signed by the Governor before the May 31, 2026 deadline to keep the Bears in Illinois. If the bill fails, the Bears may relocate to Indiana, where a competing stadium financing plan is in place. |
