Description | The Chickamauga Lock replacement is a major infrastructure project critical to commercial river traffic along the Tennessee River system. The project has faced years of delays, disputes, and mounting costs. The original contractor, Shimmick Construction Company, had its contract terminated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers due to issues including faulty concrete work and schedule concerns. Shimmick has appealed the termination. The project remains fully funded and is expected to be completed by 2028 under a new contractor, CJ Mahan. A WARN notice was filed indicating 183 workers are affected by the contract termination, with a rapid response team notified to assist affected workers. |
