Chikujō Town Public Library 'Kizuki no Mori'

Kengo Kuma and Associates transformed a former public hall into a timber-filled civic library space in rural Fukuoka, Japan. The design features radiating hinoki wooden louvers that form a porous facade and canopy, creating a soft threshold between the town and interior. The interior includes a central atrium with angled timber arrays, stepped platforms for reading and play, and open stacks for study.
