Child and youth-centered reconstruction in Ukraine (UNICEF)

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the gradual realization of the rights of all children in Ukraine and to a reduction of inequalities. The project objective is to achieve improvements in the areas of health, education and child protection in a safe environment and in strengthened communities. This is to be achieved in close cooperation with the relevant Ukrainian authorities (quality improvement, reform efforts), UN organizations (coordination, synergies), civil society and parents and young people (participation). The direct beneficiaries of the project in selected oblasts are vulnerable children, adolescents, young adults, their parents and carers, as well as teachers in kindergartens and schools and employees in the health sector. Almost 2 million people are expected to benefit directly from the project measures. Closely involved in the implementation of the measures and at the same time acting as intermediaries are the local authorities and the specialist staff of the target municipalities, who will benefit from a series of decentralized measures, in particular through capacity building and training. In parallel, the project will enable the involvement and empowerment of local civil society organizations to achieve public demand for quality services and participation of community members (indirect beneficiaries). The measures will be implemented in selected communities (hromadas) in oblasts to be determined in line with the Ukrainian reconstruction plan. The main criteria for selecting the target regions are the extent of destruction according to RDNA, the number of IDPs living there, the willingness of local authorities to actively participate and the current security situation, including existing threats from unexploded ordnance and mines.
