Description
Description | The Chile Quilleco Hydroelectric Project aims to provide financial support through a market-based mechanism for private investment in projects in the Chilean power sector that reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, thereby generating Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs,) under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Quilleco project consists of a 70 MW run-of-river hydropower plant, located on the Laja River, 8 km downstream of the existing Rucue hydropower plant. The project will generate in average about 422 GWh per year, with a firm power capacity of approximately 47 MW. The project will feed into the Central Interconnected System through a 0.5 km 220 kV transmission line connected to the Central Interconnected System. The Netherlands Clean Development Mechanism Facility will purchase 100,000 tCO2e of CERs each year between 2008-2011, and additional CERs produced by the project will be retained by the firm Tractebel - one of Colbun's shareholders. |
