The project faced delays due to the discovery of mineralized uranium in the rocks used to build the dam, which were sourced from the reservoir site. The reservoir is planned to be filled gradually, starting with 1,500-acre feet of water, about 2% of its total capacity. It aims to provide water security for 12 Northern Colorado communities and serve over 800,000 residents. The project began in 2021 and is expected to open for recreational activities such as boating, hiking, and fishing by 2028. |
