The Chimuara-Nacala Independent Power Transmission (IPT) project involves developing the second and third phases of a power transmission infrastructure to enhance the electricity network between central and northern Mozambique. This includes constructing a 272km 400kV transmission line from Alto Molócuè to Namialo, a 98km 220kV transmission line from Namialo to Nampula, and a 90km 220kV transmission line from Namialo to Nacala-à-Velha. Additionally, it involves constructing two new substations at Namialo and Nacala-à-Velha and expanding the existing substation at Nampula. The project is spanning from Chimuara in Sofala province, through Namialo in Nampula province, to Nacala-à-Velha. The total funding for both phases of the project is $450 million, entirely funded by the British Government. The sponsor is Gridworks, a subsidiary of British International Investment and supported by Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM).
