China Mobile (Hong Kong) Limited was incorporated in Hong Kong on 3 September 1997. It listed its ordinary shares on the New York Stock Exchange and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong on 22 October 1997 and 23 October 1997, respectively. The Company was admitted as a constituent stock of the Hang Seng Index on 27 January 1998, and obtained a BBB credit rating from Standard and Poor's and a Baa2 credit rating from Moody's. As of 31 December 2000, the total market capitalization of the Company stood at US$100 billion. The Company provided mobile telecommunications services in 13 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in the People's Republic of China, including Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Henan, Hainan, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Hebei, Liaoning, Shandong and Guangxi, through 13 wholly-owned subsidiaries. As of 2005, state-owned China Mobile (Hong Kong) Group Limited, the major shareholder of China Mobile (Hong Kong) Limited, held an equity interest of 75.07% in the Company through its wholly owned subsidiary, China Mobile Hong Kong (BVI) Limited. The remaining 24.93% equity interest was held by public investors. At the end of 2005, total subscribers stood at 246.6 million for China Mobile (Hong Kong), giving it a market share of approximately 65.6%. It's main competitor was China Unicom. In March 2006, China Mobile (Hong Kong) Limited completed the acquisition and privatization of former China Resources Peoples Telephone Company Limited and later changed its name to China Mobile Peoples Telephone Company Limited. China Mobile Peoples Telephone Company Limited became a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Mobile (Hong Kong) Limited. In May 2006,China Mobile (Hong Kong) Limited changed its name to China Mobile Limited.
