China is progressing in unifying its scattered data centres into a nationwide computing network to support artificial intelligence applications. The Open Data Centre Committee (ODCC), representing key AI infrastructure investors like Alibaba and China Telecom, is working on transforming the country's data centres into a unified network. The project includes breakthroughs in inter-chip communications and the establishment of a networking laboratory to test communications between home-grown chips and network switches. The initiative also emphasizes flexible and sustainable data centre buildouts considering land, power, water, and climate resources, including green energy use.
