China's Belt and Road Infrastructure Initiative in Latin America

Ongoing

China has significantly increased its trade and lending in Latin America, becoming a major economic partner for the region, particularly in energy and infrastructure projects. This expansion is part of China's ambitious Belt and Road global infrastructure initiative, which has given Beijing enormous influence in critical emerging markets. China provides funding for energy and infrastructure projects, often repaid in oil, with Venezuela being the largest recipient of Chinese state loans.
