China is constructing a mega-dam on the Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet, which is larger than the Three Gorges Dam and expected to produce over 300 billion kWh of hydroelectric power annually. The project aims to contribute to China's carbon neutrality goal by 2060. The dam's construction has already caused measurable changes to the Earth's rotation, according to NASA. The dam is located in a high-altitude, seismically active region of the Himalayas, raising concerns about risks to downstream countries India and Bangladesh, which rely on the Brahmaputra River for water, agriculture, and livelihoods. India has requested transparency and safety guarantees, but China has not shared data with affected countries.
