China's Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing Plants at Jinta, Gansu Province

China completed construction of its first civilian demonstration reprocessing plant at the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) Gansu Nuclear Technology Industrial Park in Jinta, Gansu province, expected to be operational in 2025. Construction of a second plant to reprocess spent light-water reactor fuel at the same location is underway and expected to be operational before the end of the decade. A third plant's construction began in 2023 and is expected to be completed in the early 2030s. These plants support plutonium extraction from spent nuclear fuel for nuclear weapons production.
