Chinatown Stitch Project

The Chinatown Stitch project aims to cap the Vine Street highway from 10th to 13th Streets in Philadelphia to create larger walkways and greenspaces, including a park and safer pedestrian lanes. The project envisions narrowing the roadway to improve pedestrian safety and add greenspace. It has been in discussion since 2004, with renderings shared in 2023. The project initially had about $158 million in federal funding, but much of this funding has been rescinded following the passage of President Donald Trump's budget and policy package. Approximately $8.4 million has been obligated and is actively being spent on planning. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the city of Philadelphia are awaiting guidance from the Federal Highway Administration regarding the legislation, and the project development phase will not move into final design until a clear funding plan for construction is established.
