Description
Description | China is constructing three large missile silo fields in its northern desert areas: Yumen field in Gansu province with 120 silos, Hami field in Eastern Xinjiang with 110 silos, and Yulin field near Hanggin Banner with 90 silos. These fields include support facilities, communications, surveillance towers, and potential air defense sites. The construction of approximately 320 new silos for solid-fueled ICBMs across these fields represents the largest expansion of China's nuclear arsenal ever, exceeding the number of silo-based ICBMs operated by Russia and constituting about three-quarters of the entire US ICBM force. Underground installations are present at Yumen and Hami fields, with ongoing tunneling operations and construction. |
