As part of the EU call for competence centres (Digital-Chip-2024-SG-CCC-1), a consortium of 5 Danish partners aims to establish a Chips Competence Centre in Denmark (C3-DK), where the first 4 years will be funded by this call. The mission of the C3-DK competence centre is to: Lower the threshold for Danish and EU-based SMEs and start-ups to design and fabricate semiconductor chips in general and quantum chips in particular. C3-DK will provide training, tools and resources to support innovations and sustained business development within these areas of advanced chip technology. The C3-DK chip competence centre will focus on three technical thematic areas, each headed by partners specialised in the specific area: Chip design Chip fabrication Quantum chips and metrology and characterisation of these. The centre’s work-packages address specific objectives which go across the different technical areas, and these are: Establishing the centre - to be headquartered at DTU. Providing training on semiconductor and quantum chips. Supporting business development and innovation for SMEs and start-ups. Proactive cooperation with the European Network of Chips Competence Centres (ENCCC). Communication, user outreach and dissemination. The overall budget of the centre is 7.7 M€ for four years. The centre will offer a wide range of chip related services with respect to chip design and fabrication as well as other relevant technical and business-related areas of chip innovation. The centre plans to implement a rebate scheme as a tool to provide these services to SMEs and start-up companies at favourable prices. It is also envisioned that relevant chip related services from other Danish service providers can be offered as via the C3-DK centre. Additionally, the centre will support Danish users in utilising the competences at the 27 other European chip competence centres (ENCCCs) under – what is expected to be - favourable conditions.
