Description | Arizona Public Service (APS) is converting two units of the retired Cholla Power Plant from coal to natural gas. The plant, located in Navajo County, had its four coal units shut down between 2015 and 2025. Units 1 and 3 are expected to be operational by 2029, using existing infrastructure. The project will undergo permitting and approvals over the next 18 months and aims to add approximately 380 megawatts of power to the grid, serving nearly 61,000 homes. It will create hundreds of construction jobs and support about 35 permanent jobs, generating around $4 million annually in property tax revenue starting in 2031. |
