Description

Description

In September 2006, SUEZ signed a 30-year concession with the Chongqing City government to manage and operate a municipal wastewater treatment plant. The plant was expected to process 300,000 cubic meters of waste water daily. Sino-French Water Development was the joint venture company setup by French water utility SUEZ and New World Infrastructure of Hong Kong. Sino-French and the public utility Chongqing Water Company formed a project company in April 2006 for this project; its name was not released. The project company was owned 25% by SUEZ through Sino-French, 25% by New World Infrastructure through Sino-French and 50% by the Chongqing Water Company. Sino-French's investment value was RMB 300 million (US$ 37.64 million). This was the second project awarded to Sino-French in Chongqing in the past five years - Sino-French was previously awarded a 50-year concession in 2002 to provide potable water to Chongqing. This was also the first of two projects awarded by the Chongqing government this year in the water sector: in November 2006, China Water Affairs Group was awarded a 50-year concession for potable water distribution. The project was operational as of February 2007.
