The Hatanagi Hydroelectric Project will provide a loan of $29 million to the Chubu Electric Power Company. The increase in power demand in the Chubu service area has continued at a very high rate and justifies the expansion program of which the project is a part. The expansion program includes the construction of both hydro and thermal generating facilities and also the necessary expansion of its transmission and distribution systems. The project represents the most important hydroelectric facility in an expansion program by means of which Chubu will have added about 1,600 MW of capacity to its facilities by March 1964. The project is soundly conceived and economically justified. The management of the company as well as its engineering and operating organization are capably and suitably staffed. Cost estimates for the program and for the project are reasonable.
