Information Rural Development Department, Government of Sikkim has come up with Chungthang valley Protection Project with a ticket size of 100 INR Crores. This project in Storm Water Drainage System sub-sector involves The Sub-divisional town is located at Chungthang in North Sikkim. The town is bound by two large rivers on either side which joins at the base of the town forming the largest river of the state namely Teesta. A number of hydro-electric projects are located along he river asnd he largest one in the State is located at Chungthang. These rivers are both rain fed as well as snow fed. The state has very long and and heavy monsoons thus leading to massive landslides and heavy damages along the river. The banks are regularly scoured leading to damages to properties and lives located near the river banks. As such the rivers need to trained to protect the town and the inhabitants by way of providing protective works. The current status of the project is -
