Cinekid Script LAB and Cinekid Directors LAB 2021-2022

Cinekid Script LAB and Cinekid Directors LAB are two training initiatives organised by Cinekid Foundation, aimed at writers and directors (respectively) of children's productions. Script LAB takes place over 6 months, with 2 residencies (Cinekid for Professionals, October 2021 / Berlinale 2022, February 2022), and 2 online meetings between coaches and participants. 12 to 14 projects will be selected. Cinekid Directors LAB is a vital training programme for directors of children's content, taking place over 5 days in Amsterdam in April 2022. About 6 projects will be selected. Both initiatives are tailor-made, we look clearly into the needs of the project and the selected participants and give them the tools and input they need to get to the next stage of development for their project. Cinekid Foundation supports the full chain of development of children's content. Projects participate in Script LAB to improve their stories, they participate in the Junior Co-production Market to find (inter)national co-producers, co-financers, sales agents and broadcasters, the directors prepare for the shoot during the Directors LAB, and final productions are screened in the ScreeningClub and at Cinekid Festival. The pandemic forced the editions of our 2020-2021 LABs to take place online and the first edition of Directors LAB (April 2020) was postponed to April 2021. This online event was achieved by building an online platform with 3 other Dutch festivals: IFFR, IDFA and NFF. Although we could easily translate the full LAB programmes to an online environment, and we had the opportunity to organise additional events for the participants, some elements of training are hard to host in an online event. The feedback from the participants from the 2020-2021 editions was positive, but the coming editions will be stationary again to set a safe and nurturing LAB environment. But, as we have this platform now, it will be used for future solutions, and if we have to take some sessions online.
