Circular flow land use management

CIRCUSE partner regions are confronted to massive urban sprawl, the current economic crisis and the effects of the demographic change that cause land use patterns that are neither competitive (e. g. in attracting viable economies, efficiently providing infrastructures) nor sustainable. Dispersed land use patterns with their high demands of land, soil and energy accelerate the process of climate change. In the consequence CIRCUSE will develop and implement a climate friendly land use concepts in coherence with new instruments and pilot actions. The project targets will be reached by a strategic approach to urban and peri-urban development based on the principle of Circular Land Use Management. CIRCUSE also will be strongly influenced by the goal to create climate beneficial land use structures – either by passive contributions on energy consumption by traffic, natural soil protection or actively by energy production on land integrated in temporal or final land use options. Instruments will be provided by the concept of Circular Land Use Management as an integrative policy and governance approach. CIRCUSE will provide an integrated strategic and institutional framework for the urban and regional level and will support the effective use of ERDF funding by local and regional stakeholders in the period 2014 – 2020.
