Description
Description | The On-Grid Facility for Energy Inclusion (FEI-OnG) Fund is an infrastructure fund managed by the African Development Bank Group and Lions Head Global Partners. The fund is based in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, and invests in Africa. The fund focuses on investments in the areas of energy, clean technologies and infrastructure. The participation of the FZ in the FEI-OnG Citizens' Energy Fund supports the BMZ Green Citizens' Energy for Africa initiative to give communities, municipalities and businesses in rural areas of Africa access to environmentally friendly energy. The FEI-OnG aims to provide financing of USD 350 million within eight years for manufacturers, developers and operators of medium-sized island power grids and similar decentralized energy generation solutions in order to provide climate-friendly electricity for communities, medium-sized commercial companies and private households. The focus is on providers who are already economically successful and who need equity-like subordinated loans and debt capital for their further growth. The fund plans to invest in around 15 projects to expand decentralized, climate-friendly energy generation by 600 MW and avoid the emission of around 650,000 tons of CO2 annually by replacing fossil fuels such as kerosene and diesel. The project supports the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particular SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) and SDG 13 (climate action). |
