Description

Description

The City of Lloydminster plans to construct a new event facility with two indoor ice surfaces that will replace two existing facilities which are at the end of their usable life. The main event arena will feature an regulation-sized ice sheet with a seating capacity of approx. 2,000+ with expandability to approx. 3,500+ for concerts. The community arena will also have an regulation-sized ice surface with seating of approx. 300-500. A third, outdoor regulation-sized ice surface will be attached to the new event facility. The main purpose of this new event facility is to be a destination for ice sports and other large community events. This modern new event facility will be the home to five amateur elite hockey teams, including two female competitive hockey teams. Features of the new event facility include dressing rooms that are equitable for both the male and female amateur elite hockey teams as both female teams are currently utilizing undersized or inadequate dressing rooms. Also, the new event facility will meet the accessibility and programming needs of the community, both of which are currently not being met in existing facilities. A major goal of the project is to create enhanced inclusion in sports and leisure activities and encourage participation from a diverse cross-section of the community while removing barriers to participation. This new event facility will have an improved experience for individuals with disabilities. This includes seating options at all levels of spectator viewing, accessible seating in premium seating areas, sledge hockey friendly in game amenities and inclusive public washrooms. The site is being designed to include additional recreational components that compliment the new event facility which may include slo-pitch diamonds, outdoor pavilion, walking trails, and campground. The focus on inclusion and accessibility will continue onto the site with accessible camping and wheel-chair friendly pathways.
