Description
Description | The project will involve the installation of lighting along 1.9 kilometres of pathway in the City of Martensville. The City of Martensville currently has 10 kilometres of paved, multi-use pathways that link the community. The pathways are well used by citizens for activities such as walking, running, biking, rollerblading, scootering and skateboarding. The pathway identified in this project provides a direct link from the south end of Martensville to Kinsmen Park - Martensville’s premier outdoor destination spot. Kinsmen Park includes many of the city’s most well used outdoor facilities, including ball diamonds, athletic fields, fitness pods, a disc golf course and the Kyle Syrenne skateboard park. Planning has commenced to add a pump track to the park in 2021. The lack of lighting along a significant stretch of this pathway limits its safe usage during early morning and evening hours, especially during seasons with reduced daylight hours. The project meets the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream objective by greatly enhancing an active transportation amenity that has seen significantly increased use during pandemic. The current lack of lighting limits the safe use of the identified section of pathway and reduces access to amenities that have had a positive impact on the community’s quality of life. The project is ready for tender and will create immediate economic benefits associated with infrastructure renewal. |
