Description | The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning to carry out Phases II and III of the City of Martin Downtown Flood Relocation Project. In Phase I, 800,000 cu yd of earth and rock was excavated from Varia Mountain for the project and that fill was placed in temporary storage at Mayo Hollow. Phases II and III entail relocating Route 1428 and also relocating existing utilities (sewer, water, electric, gas and telephone), clearing of existing downtown structures and facilities, and placing the stored fill to raise an 8-acre site above the floodplain for redevelopment. |
