Description

Description

The project will install two synthetic turf fields at Harewood Centennial Park, adjacent to John Barsby Community School. Additional amenities will include field lights and covered areas for players and spectators. The facility will be used on a year round basis and be available to a number of sports including soccer, softball and football. The existing grass fields at Harewood Centennial Park are frequently impacted by weather resulting in closure, affecting players and scheduling. As the City grows, the demand for playing fields grows which is resulting in overuse of the grass fields that need a recovery period after significant wear. To address the increased demand, the City has undertaken a Sports field Strategy that identified the need for a turf facility at this location. The addition of synthetic turf fields provides a higher quality playing surface that can accommodate year-round use with limited maintenance. The City may enter into a joint-use agreement with the School Boards to delineate usage and shared maintenance costs, however the project is on city land and will be city responsibility. The project works will include: - field base construction, drainage, concrete work; - synthetic Turf install including shock pad, turf lines, and infill; - field LED lighting; - covered players and officials benches; - areas for spectator seating; - secure off-field storage area; - perimeter walkway and fencing; and, - related works.
