Description
Description | This project will retrofit all 118 existing buses in the Transit fleet to have permanent barriers in the operator compartment. Transit buses currently have a temporary curtain in place that provides a barrier between operators and customers. This curtain was put in place to help stop the spread of COVID on the transit system in April of 2020. Although these curtains are working for the moment, they are only a temporary fix as they do not have long term longevity. A long term solution is needed to not only prevent spread of virus and disease, but to also provide a physical barrier for those who may want to physically harm a bus operator. Transit has had four physical assaults in the past 2 years. Although physical assaults have been rare in Regina, there are a growing amount of instances of violence towards bus operators in larger urban centers. These driver shields have been employed in most municipalities with a population of over 500,000. These shields will be standard for any future fleet additions. |
