The Project looks to construct about 11 kilometers of multi-use pathways and sidewalks increasing connectivity in the active transportation network. This project will create work for the local community and keep the job market active while improving mobility connections and the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. Several gaps have been identified in the mobility network, including pedestrian accommodation across physical barriers such as highways, connectivity to schools and playgrounds, and connectivity within the highway commercial district located in the northeast quadrant of the city. These additional pathways and sidewalks will provide the missing links in the mobility infrastructure, providing new walkers and cyclists opportunities to reach their destinations who many do not feel comfortable carpooling, taking a taxi, or a bus due to the pandemic. This will be achieved by: building secondary connections (sidewalks)/alternate multi-use pathways; new signage; new road construction which includes slope stabilization using piles and then a boardwalk will be constructed on the piles.
