Description
Description | The Ciudad Real Airport in Spain was built for over 1.1 billion euros as a major aviation hub with a 4.1 km runway and a terminal capacity of 10 million passengers per year. It aimed to reduce load on other airports and attract low-cost airlines but faced low demand, lack of railway connections, and environmental disputes. The airport closed three years after opening due to financial difficulties and lack of flights, accumulating over 300 million euros in debt and declaring bankruptcy. It was sold in 2018 for about 56 million euros and repurposed in 2019 as a storage, maintenance, and dismantling center for aircraft. |
