Civic Renaissance: Empowering Under-represented Groups and Cities

The CRUCiAL project aims to strengthen democratic participation and civic engagement of underrepresented groups across Italy, Latvia, Poland, and Ukraine. It focuses on empowering marginalised women, people with disabilities, migrants, formerly incarcerated individuals, and NGOs working with vulnerable communities to participate more actively in public life and policy processes at local, national, and EU levels. The project builds civic competences through capacity-building, mentoring, policy dialogue, creativity labs, communication campaigns, and research. It fosters both individual and organisational development, ensuring a strong knowledge transfer to NGOs and participating organisations, thus stimulating their integration into EU-wide networks and democratic platforms. CRUCiAL is grounded in the fundamental values of the European Union as enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union: respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities. The project's methodology combines traditional training with innovative approaches such as creative storytelling, participatory design, interpersonal skills development, digital literacy, and active use of social media platforms. CRUCiAL operates simultaneously in two environments: the urban community spaces (through murals, street art, civic actions) and the digital European civic space (through social media campaigns, virtual hubs, and online engagement tools). By connecting training, creativity, policy dialogue, and citizen-led actions, the CRUCiAL project fosters a sustainable, inclusive civic ecosystem that enhances diversity, inclusion, and respect for European values. Through transnational cooperation in project countries and beyond, CRUCiAL amplifies diverse citizen voices and contributes to build amplifies diverse citizen voices and contributes to building a democratic Europe for all.
