Description
Description | Design, Environmental Assessment and Engineering for addition of clarifier at wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Growth is expected in the municipality. We want to be prepared for the expansion of the plant. An Environmental Assessment is required by the Ministry of Environment prior to the construction of a third clarifier. The work is considered necessary due to Fisheries Act Regulation. The detailed design of a third Final Clarifier to improve the WWTP’s ability to treat existing loadings and increase redundancy for this critical unit process. To construct a 3rd Clarifier, it will be necessary to relocate both the WWTP’s access road and the WWTP water supply. Relocation of the access road also causes the need to replace existing WWTP Security Fencing. Because of the nature of this work (i.e. general site works construction), it would be advantageous to have it completed before the Clarifier Construction which is mostly a structural project. The investigations of WWTP capacity has also identified that wastewater currently by-passes the WWTP inlet. The result is that a portion of the WWTP inflow on some days is not measured, recorded and accounted for when assessing and managing the plant loads. Installation of a flow meter on the return line from the Peak Flow Storage Lagoon would allow this wastewater stream to be quantified which will benefit both current assessments and long-term operations. A 3rd Clarifier will require a scum pump similar to those on the existing clarifiers. Although the best approach is still subject to detailed design, there will also be long-term value in increasing the Return Activated Sludge (RAS) pumping capacity. Pre-selecting and pre-purchasing a 4th RAS pump or a larger replacement for the existing pumps will increase the functionality of the new Clarifier. |
