The SWITCH project is a European Union initiative to demonstrate hybrid-electric technology on a full-scale Pratt & Whitney GTF engine. It aims to showcase the potential of hybrid-electric technologies in optimizing engine efficiency across various flight phases for future short- and medium-range aircraft. The project involves integrated lab tests of the hybrid-electric powertrain subsystem, including motor generators, controllers, and power distribution systems, conducted at Collins Aerospace's advanced electric power systems lab 'The Grid' in Rockford, Illinois. Key subsystems validated will be integrated within a hybrid-electric Pratt & Whitney GTF engine demonstrator for further testing.
