The Clean Aviation SWITCH project is a European initiative focused on developing hybrid-electric propulsion technology for short- and medium-haul aircraft. It involves initial testing of electric motor drive systems integrated into a hybrid-electric powertrain subsystem, including motor generators, controllers, and power distribution systems. The project aims to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions by incorporating more electric systems into propulsion architectures, with plans to integrate two megawatt-class motor generators into a hybrid-electric Pratt & Whitney GTF engine demonstrator in the next testing phase.
