Description
Description | Due to uncontrolled deforestation, a lack of framework conditions and investments for sustainable and participatory forest management and climate-related changes, the Indian states in the north and northeast are facing the challenge of stopping the degradation of forests and water catchment areas. Since these ecosystems represent the most important livelihood of the rural population, measures for climate-adapted rehabilitation and protection of forests are to be implemented in selected Indian states in the Himalayan catchment area. The aim of the FC program is to introduce sustainable, climate-adapted and participatory management of natural resources in selected Indian states in the Himalayan catchment area. The focus within natural resources is on forests. The project thus helps to improve the natural resource base, minimize the risks of climate change and increase productivity and income in rural areas. The target group of the FC program is the rural (in the states of Manipur and Tripura predominantly also indigenous) population in selected Indian states in the Himalayan catchment area, who are dependent on the use of natural resources. The project sponsors in Manipur and Tripura are the respective state forestry departments. |
