Description

Description

The project is part of the development cooperation priority of integrated water resource management in the Niger Basin with the Niger Basin Authority Autorité du Bassin du Niger (ABN) and supports the implementation of the long-term development plan (Plan dActions du Développement Durable; PADD) and the ABN's priority investment program for Guinea. Core problem Despite good climatic conditions for agriculture, 1/4 of all Guinean households suffer from food insecurity and 1/3 of all children under 5 are malnourished. Module objective The aim of the module is to sustainably increase agricultural production and productivity through improved use of natural water resources in the Niger catchment area in order to contribute to improving food security and protecting the population from the effects of climate change. Key outputs In addition to increasing agricultural production in the project area through the rehabilitation and expansion of irrigation perimeters, the key output is the expansion of rural roads, which will better connect the irrigation perimeters to markets and central roads. In addition, environmental measures are to be implemented in the vicinity of the perimeters, such as erosion protection. Target group The target group is the entire population in the Niger River catchment area in Guinea, especially owners of agricultural plots in the irrigation perimeters. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 - No poverty - No hunger - Industry, innovation and infrastructure - Sustainable consumption and production - Climate protection measures
