Description
Description | Climate change remains a critical global phenomenon that attracts the attention of policy-makers and researchers. Particularly, Africa is one of the most vulnerable continents to climate change impacts due to its limited adaptation and mitigation capacity. Hence, Africa is demanding for highly skilled manpower in the areas of climate change to achieve its ambitions for resilient and carbon neutral economy. Science-informed and evidence-based policy, planning and practices are urgently required to ensuring Africa’s green development and resilience to the negative impacts of climate change. To address these pressing needs, a consortium – CREATE-GreenAfrica – is established consisting of six partner universities from three regions of the African continent and one technical partner university from EU member states. By building on their past experience, the consortium member universities will further strengthen the quality of their climate-oriented academic programs and research activities, and thereby contribute to the green and sustainable development of the African continent and beyond. The consortium will standardize and harmonize the quality of the climate-oriented education system across all the partner universities. Different instrumental tools such as review of curriculum programs, mentorship, and Training Supervision Plan (TSP) will be implemented to monitor and evaluate the mobility programs and research activities. Through the support of the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, CREATE-GreenAfrica will significantly contribute to advancing knowledge and skills of students, trainees and staff of the consortium and other non-consortium members on climate change adaptation and mitigation by ensuring the participation of women and girls, and the disadvantaged groups in the African continent in general and the consortium in particular. |
