Description

Description

As a result of climate change, the weather in recent years has become increasingly extreme and bottlenecks in the border region are becoming more visible. The more extreme weather on both sides of the border is increasingly causing flooding, salinisation and drought. However, finding a solution to the water problem does not stop at the border. Taking measures on one side of the border can result in greater water problems on the other side of the border. It is therefore necessary to take joint action, share knowledge and coordinate infrastructure. A climate-robust water system on both sides of the canal from Ghent to Terneuzen With this in mind, the project focuses on setting up the water system of Othene (NL), Langelede (VL), de Poel (NL) and Vogelschorpolder (NL) in the vicinity of the Ghent-Terneuzen canal. Two mills are built and the water systems are adapted to improve water drainage and freshwater distribution in the border region. There are also numerous adjustments so that, among other things, fish can pass better. In addition, the optimal level management in the border region is investigated to achieve future-proof water management, and to coordinate this together with remotely controlled propulsion and grounding.
