Description
Description | EU-DRAWS aims to foster the awareness, study and research on EU Digital Rights, i.e. the fundamental rights we enjoy in the online environment, critically addressing the challenges that the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications poses to the protection and exercise of such rights. More specifically, the Module will set up a legal design (LD) clinic for understanding, applying and improving EU Digital Rights. LD is an innovative field of research and practice, which applies a human-centred approach to the prevention or solution of legal problems. Working in the clinic, students will have to develop proposals for defending or facilitating the exercise of digital rights in a concrete scenario. The course is multidisciplinary in approach: therefore, highly experienced scholars in LD and digital rights advocates will be invited to join the Module. EU-DRAWS will contribute to: 1) expand the lines of research and teaching on the rising field of EU AI Law, stimulating the interest of students, researchers and lecturers both at UCLouvain and beyond; 2) improve legal education, providing students with skills and knowledge relevant in their future career; 3) contribute to the policy debate on AI law from the perspective of fundamental rights; 4) raise the awareness of citizens about digital rights under the EU framework; 5) foster collaboration between the academia and civil society actors. To enhance the visibility of the clinic, each year we will organise a roundtable on “Law and Design for EU Digital Rights”. The Module will make available a set of teaching and research content, i.e: a) the open access (OA) Handbook on EU Digital Rights; b) 1 scientific paper on EU Digital Rights and LD to be submitted to an OA peer-reviewed journal; c) the proceedings of the roundtable. Such content will be disseminated via: a) the EU-DRAWS website; b) the virtual learning environment for the course; c) the Module’s social media channels. |
