The Anning Valley Agricultural Development Project aims at increasing the agricultural production and marketability in the area, with a particular emphasis at reducing poverty. The project fosters the effective use of natural resources, through the development of mountainous areas and environmental improvement. The key components of the project are: a) water resources development, consisting of three sub-components - Manshuiwan, Huangqiao & Shengli - which include the construction of weirs, high dam and canal systems, both for irrigation and hydroelectric power stations; b) the development of land and technology for crop development, aimed at increasing provincial food production; c) orchard development to improve the quality and quantity of fruits in the project area; d) the sericulture development, designed to be market-driven, will increase and improve silk production; e) the livestock development aims at reducing farm poverty, generating income activity for women as well; f) the agro-processing component, provides essential linkages among production, processing and marketing of farm products; and g) the institutional development component will strengthen institutional issues for agricultural research and extension, as well as environmental protection.
