Description

Description

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is collaborating with Akij Resource Limited (AKL) under an Upstream Collaboration Agreement to undertake a fleet decarbonization roadmap and sustainability assessment to establish the viability of decarbonizing its operations and the financing of its vessel renewal program. Through this program, AKL can meet the growing demand for shipping in Bangladesh, driven by its strategic location on the Bay of Bengal, robust growth in the country’s textile exports and energy imports, upcoming boost in the country’s cargo handling capacity due to new deep seaport in Matarbari, and favorable ordinances for domestic cargo operators. The Collaboration activities will cover market and technical studies, a diagnostic and retrofitting strategy, and E&S and capacity building.
