Description | The Ministry of Coal in India is launching the second tranche of viability gap funding (VGF) amounting to ₹2,400 crore to support coal gasification projects. The initiative aims to promote coal/lignite gasification technology which converts coal into syngas for producing methanol, ammonium nitrate, synthetic natural gas, and fertilizers while reducing emissions. The government targets achieving 100 million tonnes of coal gasification by 2030. The funding scheme was launched in January 2024 with a total outlay of ₹8,500 crore, of which ₹6,100 crore has already been allocated. The scheme supports PSUs and private sector projects under three categories with specific funding provisions. |
