Description | The Union Cabinet approved a scheme to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects with an outlay of Rs 37,500 crore to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on imports of LNG, urea, ammonia, and methanol. The scheme targets gasification of around 75 million tonnes of coal and aims to bring in 25 new projects in addition to four already under development. Financial support will be provided up to 20% of the cost of plant and machinery through a competitive bidding process with incentives linked to project milestones. |
