Description
Description | This proposal constitutes the basis for implementing Ecosystem-Based Management under the Biannual Plan of Action of the Coalition Clean Baltic network for 2026 and is built on the outcomes of CCB's work in previous periods. CCB aims to continue to uphold our regional NGO network capacity to take part in policy shaping and policy implementation on EU, Baltic Sea Region and national level. We want to increase the chances of acceptance and support to EU priorities regarding nature, biodiversity and quality of life. Specifically, with this Work Plan CCB aims to improve the protection of threatened species such as the critically endangered Baltic harbour porpoise, the European eel and endemic wild salmon stocks by supporting further establishment of marine protected areas, continuing to push for phasing out of targeted eel fishery and especially the recreational fishery. We want to propose concrete measures for upstream migration barriers, as agreed in the revised HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan. CCB will support and develop deliverables of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and the recently approved Nature Restoration Law, with legally binding targets for marine habitats. CCB also aims to support actions addressing sustainable agriculture (Common Agricultural Policy and Farm-to-Fork strategy), as well as safe chemicals management (EU Chemicals Strategy) and minimizing industrial discharges (Zero Pollution Action Plan) to ensure that the EU Green Deal, as a blueprint for transformational change, is implemented to improve the well-being and health of citizens and future generations. CCB aims to propose improvement and ways to better implement the Marine Strategy Framework Directive that is still in the review process in 2024-2025. We will continue follow-up of the HELCOM BSAP implementation and will also address environmental challenges caused by the war by supporting actions contributing to the Green Recovery of Ukraine. |
