Description
Description | The Coastal and Marine Protection III (Pêche Côtière Durable - PCD III) project contributes to the development cooperation programme Protection and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources in Madagascar. The focus of the project is the local and sustainable management of natural marine and coastal resources. This sustainable management aims to improve the condition of marine and coastal ecosystems and the living conditions of the coastal communities. The natural resources are to be managed more sustainably by supporting locally managed marine areas (LMMAs) and within the framework of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) in cooperation with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) already active there. The focus of the project is on sustainable (traditional) small-scale fishing, with the main beneficiaries being the direct actors in the small-scale fishing sector (in particular small-scale fishermen and women as the main target group). The project also promotes cooperation with the private sector, which is committed to responsible fishing. The recipient of the FC contribution is the Republic of Madagascar, represented by the Ministry of Finance. The project sponsor is Madagascar National Parks, which is responsible not only for the management of terrestrial and marine protected areas but also for involving the local population in the sustainable protection of sensitive ecosystems. To this end, MNP is working closely with NGOs that are already active in the planned project regions. The total cost of the project is estimated at around EUR 10.1 million. A FC grant of EUR 10 million is available to finance the costs of the project, which will be supplemented by MNP's own contributions. In addition, further funds will be mobilized from the NGOs and the private sector. |
