Coastal erosion and submersion risk mitigation work in the Perron Boulevard, Des Tournepierres Street and Des Mouettes Street area in Maria

The project aims to prevent erosion and coastal flooding of the shores of the Baie-des-Chaleurs located in the Perron Boulevard and Tournepierres and Des Mouettes streets in the municipality of Maria in Gaspesie. While analysis of the final solution is ongoing, the scope of work under consideration includes: • beach recharge by adding granular materials or riprap over a distance of 1,724 metres approximately and an area of approximately 60,136 square metres along the shoreline. This project will increase the structural capacity of the municipality of Maria, which is heavily affected by climate change, to adapt and withstand natural disasters and extreme weather events.
