Description
Description | The City of Cape Town has allocated R93 million to develop a gas-to-power plant at the Coastal Park Landfill near Muizenberg. The plant converts methane gas emissions from decomposing waste into electricity, generating enough power to supply over 4,300 households. The project includes 49 vertical gas wells and horizontal trenches to extract methane, which is then treated and used to fuel generators. Part of the electricity is fed into the Cape Town grid, while the rest powers landfill operations. The project has taken over 10 years to develop and aims to reduce methane emissions and provide clean energy. |
