Description

Description

MIGA issued a $14.3 million guarantee covering Efes's equity investment in Coca-Cola Bishkek Bottlers (CCBB) to bottle and sell Coca-Cola products under a franchise agreement with the Coca-Cola Company. MIGA insurance covers Efes against expropriation and war risks. CCBB, the first producer of soft drink beverages in the Kyrgyz Republic, is owned jointly by Efes (a Turkish company),the Coca-Cola Export Corporation, and a local investor. The project will establish an efficient distribution system using modern technology. By procuring available raw materials locally, the project will contribute to the local economy. Domestic production will replace approximately $1.6 million of beverage imports annually and will have a positive effect on the balance of payments. CCBB also will benefit local merchants, restaurants, and other small businesses through greater product availability and sales. The project will employ 180 workers, who will be trained in modern manufacturing techniques, sales, distribution, and marketing management.
