Description | The project includes a 12,000 feet runway, two terminals, four airbridges and an ATC tower. The airport will have a capacity of 1.5 million passengers and 40,000 tons cargo. Financial closure was achieved through a loan provided by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) and through shareholders equity; 49% of the shares are held by Gulf based NRIs (non-resident Indians), 6% of the shares are up for sale and 45% of the shares are controlled by the government. HUDCO is considering converting part of its loan exposure into equity. In 2000, the company announced that it will issue additional equity and use the funds to pay for part of its debts, to reduce interest costs, and to finance future expansion of the airport.
